Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Reiki on the Isle of Lewis

The therapies offered to you by Jane Eastwood are Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Reiki. They are known as Natural or Complimentary Therapies, as they compliment any treatment you may currently be receiving from your General Practitioner.

Complimentary therapies are quite ancient in origin, with some knowledge being passed down in old texts, by word of mouth or just waiting to be rediscovered. (There is nothing new under the sun) They work holistically by treating the individual as a whole entity, that is, body, mind and spirit. When we are in a state of dis-ease it is because somehow we have lost the balance between body, mind and spirit. Natural therapies work by restoring the balance and bringing us back into our true alignment.

Treatments are available at Ravenstar by arrangement or can be delivered, locally, in your own home.

Natural Therapies available from Ravenstar:

Indian Head Massage

This very relaxing treatment has been practiced in India for many hundreds of years and originally came from the tradition of grooming hair in families.

Many richly scented oils were massaged into the hair to keep it healthy and beautiful. Massaging the heads of customers who came to have their hair cut was a common part of the service in Indian barbers shops and is still practiced in India today.

The Massage itself focuses on the head, neck, shoulders and upper arms and is a very relaxing therapy which helps to reduce stress and anxiety. It has the added benefits of improving the circulation, reducing muscle pain, increasing lymphatic drainage and improving joint mobility together with many more subtle actions. It helps to re-balance the person as a whole.

It is usually done sitting comfortably in a chair with an upright back.

Reflexology

This therapy was practised in China, Egypt and India thousands of years ago. Egyptian tombs have wall paintings with doctors giving Reflexology treatments. It works by stimulating nerves in the body via the reflex points on the soles of the feet. In the early part of the 20th century it was shown that applying pressure to one part of the body had an analgesic effect on another part. It is a therapy which has many benefits including improvement of the circulation, stress reduction, relaxation, cleansing the body of toxins and generally balancing and revitalizing the individual. Even if the person does not suffer from a specific condition a Reflexology treatment is a good way to relax, de-stress and re-balance. Think of it as good maintenance.

A treatment is usually given with the client lying comfortably on a couch, but can be managed with the person sitting in a comfy chair with their feet on a pillow on the Therapist’s lap.

Reiki

The word Reiki literally means “Universal Life Force”. It has very ancient origins but was rediscovered in the 1870’s by Dr Mikao Usui a medical doctor, who used it in his medical practice in Japan. Its popularity spread to the Western world.

The life force energy is found in all living things. Reiki practitioners learn how to channel this energy through their hands to the client. This activates the body’s ability to heal itself and brings about balance within the individual. The energy goes to the root cause of the dis-ease and helps people to take responsibility for their lives, health and well-being. The person receiving Reiki becomes the healer for themselves.

Reiki encompasses all religions and may be used on all living things. It is a means of channelling love which is the greatest healer of all.
