The rugged coastline of Lewis has some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK nestled along it.  The volcanic cliffs give a dramatic backdrop to the long stretches of golden sands and the ever changing energy of the Atlantic Ocean. Many surfers come to ride the majestic waves.

Mostly, the only sounds to be heard is the constant rush of the sea and the calls of nesting Kittiwakes, Terns  and Fulmars, though keep an eye out for the Bonxies, the rare Great Skuas that nest on nearly coastal high points!

There are many walks across the machair, the famous flower-filled grasslands that run alongside most of the beaches. The beach of Coll bay is just a five minute drive away and one of over 20 sandy beaches in the local area, which range in size from golden vastness to a private hideaway.
